For Ted

Yup - It's Pop's Garage and that IS a flat screen in a garage. What man-cave would it be without one? Now to put up some 30 more signs.

Almost Done

In May, the floor was finished in a 2 stage epoxy. This is a base coat, a second layer of decorative flakes and then a 2 part clear coat is applied. From start to finish to dry, this took over a week - but the results are great.

Last weekend the lift was delivered and installed.

This was not a do-it-yourself project...so I had the pros do the install

Here it is completed. For those that need to know the technical features, it is a Bendpak 10 foot - 2 post 220 volt electric/hydrolic lift with a 9,000 pound capacity.

I completed the electrical today and tested it out...It works!

Full house! Next up tools and equipment

Dream Garage - Day ?? Month 4

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to update this post... so here goes.

This is turning into one long build... but we are making progress. Since my last write up we have completed painting, all electrical, cable for the big screen TV and an occupancy permit!

Today, we wrapped up the landscaping - which is shared with Grace's Oasis - with several LARGE palm trees, bushes and a crushed shell driveway.

Hopefully we'll get the floor epoxy down and the lift installed within the next month.

Dream Garage - Day 64

Since I am out of the retirement mode and back to work, I have not had the opportunity to update the project. So for the past month a lot of the detail work was underway.

  • The electrical, lighting and garage openers are installed. In the lift bay we installed a specially designed garage door opener that allows the door to rise to hug the ceiling so that it will not interfere with a car when it is on the lift. You can see that the opener is mounted on the wall next to the door
  • The exterior has its' stucco put on and is ready for sealer and paint.
  • The interior is done with 3 coats of color.
  • The lift is in storage in Orlando and we are waiting for the epoxy floor to be completed before that will be installed.
  • Exterior paint and final grading is this week, with the final inspection is set for early next week
  • Oh.. and we now have a usable attic!!

Garage Build - Day 34

A lot has happened over the past few weeks. We upgraded the electrical service in the house to get 100 amp service to the garage. The trusses were installed yesterday (we had 9 framers here and they did it all in one day!) and the attic, drop down ladder and trim work is being finished up today. Next up, roof inspection, shingling, and attic completion.

Garage Build - Day 20

The walls are done!

Next up, county inspection of the completed walls. Because we are in hurricane country, the engineering that goes into this build is interesting. Within the walls, every 4 feet or so, are rebars that run from the foundation to the top sill plate. These rebars will tie the roof trusses to the walls. Before the trusses are installed, concrete will be poured down the cavities of the walls reinforcing the rebar. The carpenters are here today measuring for the installation of the trusses and roof.
